A man has been hospitalised in Cork following a hit-and-run by an allegedly stolen pick-up truck in Carlow.

The fleeing truck rammed a garda vehicle and then drove down a pavement, running over a man who suffered serious injuries.

The man who was hit is in his 30s. He was with his motorcycle on a quiet street in Graiguecullen, Co. Carlow, at approximately 7.35am on Wednesday when he was hit.

Gardaí had received a report that a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck had been stolen in the Rathcoole area of Co. Dublin early on Wednesday morning.

“At approximately 7.35am, the stolen vehicle was located travelling on Chaff Street, Graiguecullen, Co. Carlow, by gardaí on mobile patrol,” a statement from Garda Headquarters said.

“The vehicle left the scene and collided with another car and a motorcycle.

“The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 30s, was taken from the scene to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.” No other injuries have been reported at this time, gardaí said.

Four male teenagers were arrested at the scene and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda stations in Co. Carlow.

The road was closed for examination and has since reopened. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 913 6620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
