A status yellow weather warning has been issued for one county, as Met Éireann says persistent rain is expected to fall across the Bank Holiday weekend.

The warning will be in effect in Donegal on Sunday, from 2pm to 10pm.

The forecaster said the “persistent and at times heavy rain” may lead to possible impacts and local flooding.

On a general note, this Saturday will be dry with sunny spells for most of the day, with rain expected to move quickly southeastwards over the country during the afternoon.

Temperatures will remain mild, hitting highs of 12 to 15C with light to moderate winds as the rain clears.

However, on Sunday the showers will return.

The national forecast from Met Éireann says that rain will become "widespread, persistent, and at times heavy in the west and northwest of the country,"

Temperatures will reach highs of 8 to 13C in the afternoon.

Sunday night will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, but it will be mild and humid with temperatures not going below 12 to 15C in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Met Éireann said the Bank Holiday Monday will start out rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, but will become drier through the afternoon and evening as the rain becomes lighter and patchier.

Some brighter spells will develop later in the evening, with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a light westerly wind.
