Lego set based on RNLI lifeboat could soon become a reality

A Lego set based on an RNLI lifeboat could be in the works to mark the organisation's 200th anniversary.
One proud supporter of the charity and an avid Lego fan has submitted a design based on the Shannon Class boat.
Featured on the Lego Ideas website, the boat needs to get 10,000 votes in order to be in with a chance to become a real Lego set.
The RNLI shared the design on its social media, encouraging supporters to vote.
In just one week, the design has already gained over 1,100 votes. The user behind the design, known as The Cranky Buffalo, said he was caught by surprise by the support shown so far.

"The Lego Shannon class Lifeboat has its waterjets at maximum and is racing out to sea at full speed," he said.
The lifeboat design features a great deal of detail and is split into four different sections.
It features waterjets, engines, radar, loudspeakers, aerial, antennae, and flags.
A crew cabin has room for six volunteer crew, complete with tiny monitors.
Along with the boat itself, the design includes a launch and recovery system; a mobile slipway that can be used to bring the boat down a beach and into the sea to launch. It would also be used to get the boat from the beach on its return to winch it back onto its trailer.

It also has a submersible tractor unit that pulls the launch and recovery system with a driver's seat that can rotate 180 degrees.
"Please help to make this project a reality, and further spread the word about the selfless work that the RNLI do," the designer said.
