Irish Rail hiring train drivers with salary up to €63,000
Train drivers can expect to make up to €63k per year as well as get some benefits including pension, reduced fares on networks and further education support.
Irish Rail has launched a new recruitment campaign for up to 100 drivers over the next two years.
The company is seeking applications from Cork to join the team.
It is also looking for train drivers in Limerick, Waterford, the Greater Dublin area, Athlone, Galway and Westport.
The expansion comes as Irish Rail is set to increase the volume and frequency of rail services in many parts of the country in the coming years, including in Cork, where works have commenced on a new platform at Kent railway station to facilitate the running of high-frequency trains directly from Mallow through the city to Midleton or Cobh.
Train drivers can expect to make up to €63,000 per year as well as get some benefits including pension, reduced fares on networks and further education support.
Those interested in applying must meet European Train Driver requirements with a "minimum of nine years full-time education and must be over the age of 20."
In a statement this week, Irish Rail is asking women to consider driving roles, with an increasing number of women in recent trainee classes.
It also highlighted the diverse range of previous careers from which recent driver recruits have come, from banking to airlines, from defence forces to archaeology and much more.
Iarnród Éireann added that there will be a number of multiple-hurdle phases in the selection process including an initial online application & assessments, face-to-face assessment centres, competency-based interviews, and rigorous medical and safety reference checking.
