Gardaí to pilot body-worn cameras next year

Body-worn cameras for gardaí are expected to roll out on a pilot basis next year, and these devices will not have the capacity for live facial recognition, An Garda Síochána has said.

At a press conference in Dublin, gardaí outlined how it had begun a public procurement process for the new technology — expected to cost in excess of €10m over five years — which it said would improve Garda safety, enhance accountability and reduce complaints of Garda misconduct.
