Petrol bombs were thrown at police in the North

A number of petrol bombs have been thrown at police as trouble flared in a republican area of the North.

A van was hijacked and set alight at the Lake Street railway junction in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

The vehicle was taken in the nationalist Kilwilkie estate around 4.30am.

Three petrol bombs were thrown at officers who attended the incident. There were no injuries.

Members of the Apprentice Boys of Derry protestant loyal order are due to march through parts of Lurgan later today.

The hijacking prompted the closure of the railway line, impacting the cross-border Enterprise service.

The line reopened before 10am.

On Saturday, masked men marched through Kilwilkie, a staunchly republican neighbourhood, to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising.

Police are investigating the incident as the parade was staged without the necessary permission.
