Ex-soldiers win case not to be transferred to Northern Ireland for Bloody Sunday questioning

Former British soldiers who face questioning over Bloody Sunday have won their case against being detained and transferred to Northern Ireland to be interviewed by police.

The High Court in London ruled in favour of the ex-paratroopers, who cannot be named.

The PSNI chief constable wants them brought back for an investigation into whether criminal offences may have been committed by soldiers who used lethal force on Bloody Sunday in 1972.

Lawyers for the ex-soldiers argued that their lives might be put at risk.

The court granted the seven men an order prohibiting the PSNI from arresting them on their undertaking “that they will attend for an interview under caution…”
