Gardaí say a post-mortem carried out on the body of a man found in Dublin city centre last week has proved inconclusive.

54-year-old John Stewart was found dead in suspicious circumstances in an apartment near Clanbrassil Street last Thursday.

A forensic exam was done at the scene and the remains were taken to the morgue for tests, but detectives say it is still unclear what happened.

They are anxious to trace John's movements between Tuesday December 1 and Wednesday December 2 and have appealed for witnesses.

It is believed John could have spent some time in the city centre and may have been wearing a grey padded coat, light coloured jeans and a grey wooly hat.
