Politicians urged to pay attention to young voters
Politicians are being warned to ignore young voters at their peril.
The National Youth Council of Ireland is launching its pre-election manifesto today with a call to "make Ireland the best country in which to be a young person".
The council is demanding better standard of youth employment and moves to address issues like zero-hour contracts.
They are also calling for greater investment in youth services around the country.
Daniel Meister of the NYCI said that young people's needs should be addressed.
“We have 460,000 young voters that means there are more voters registered, mobilised and energised than any time in the past 20 years,” he said.
“So I think it is more important than ever, for politicians to engage with the young voters.”
