Government to delay action on IBRC inquiry pending judge's report

The Government is to take no action on the problems with the Commission of Investigation into write-offs at the IBRC until an interim report is provided by the judge.

The inquiry's stalled after Judge Brian Cregan raised issues with confidentiality and legal privilege.

Enda Kenny's faced questions on the problems for the inquiry for the first time in the Dáil this afternoon.

The Taoiseach has said the Government was asked not to rush into any actions today.

“In the determination published on the Commission’s website Justice Cregan has made a number of observations,” said the Taoiseach.

“Now, he has made a request this morning that the Cabinet would not take a course of action until the interim report is received from him and I respect that.

“But I would say that work is already underway in respect of the possibility of options that need to be followed here by the office of the Attorney General.”
