More than a third of Irish adults still have childhood toy
Research reveals that over a third of Irish adults still own their favourite childhood toy, while over half (51%) of Irish adults have held onto at least one toy they loved when they were growing up.
Research carried out by Argos has found that over half of Irish adults (51%) couldn’t bring themselves to part with them, while over a third (32%) of adults intend to pass their toys onto their own children.
The study was commissioned to mark the fourth year of the Argos Toy Exchange which runs until Friday 20th November. Argos customers are encouraged to donate pre-loved toys to their local Argos store in exchange for a €5 toy voucher.
The toys will then be passed on to local charities throughout Ireland and sold in their retail stores, raising vital funds for the charity.
The research also revealed that although we may hold on to that one much loved toy, one in ten Irish people opt to give all of their toys away to charity, allowing another child to experience the same joy that toy once gave them.
Andy McClelland, Operations Manager, Argos Republic of Ireland said: “As one of Ireland’s leading toy retailers, we know how important toys can be to a child’s development and memories.
"It’s easy to remember the name of our favourite toy growing up, but who would have thought so many of us still owned them!," Mr McClelland said.
The Toy Exchange is a great way for all children to get the chance to be united with that special someone (or something) which could well become a friend for life. Each year Argos’ Toy Exchange raises hundreds of thousands of euros worth of toy donations and we’re committed to making this the most successful year yet.”
