Stop Out of Control Drinking campaign releases final report

The Stop Out of Control Drinking campaign has stopped short of calling for a ban on alcohol sponsorship of events in Ireland.

In the campaign's final report, it is recommending ways to bring about a shift in Irish drinking culture.

It is focusing on stronger regulation and enforcement and also calls for the establishment of a national foundation to reduce alcohol misuse.

The campaign was embroiled in controversy earlier this year over the involvement of drinks company Diageo - the firm's country director later stood down from the board.

The campaign hopes to raise awareness of the consequences of drinking to excess, the damage it can do to the individual and the impact it can have on others.
