Adams and Prince Charles 'both tree-huggers'

Gerry Adams has said he and Prince Charles have little in common, though they are both "tree-huggers".

The Sinn Féin leader has been speaking following his historic meeting and handshake with the heir to the British throne yesterday.

Gerry Adams said the two discussed the killings that took place in Mullaghmore and in Mr Adams' home town of Ballymurphy.

"I would never be reconciled to partition or to British government involvement in the affairs of the people of this Ireland," he said, "but at the same time, he and I are of an age. We're both tree-huggers and have other things in common.

"But more importantly, we both have suffered bereavement in the course of the conflict."
