Gardaí renew appeal for Baby Maria's mother

One week on from the discovery of a baby at the side of the road in Dublin, Gardaí have renewed their appeal for her mother to come forward.

Baby Maria was found in Steelstown in Rathcoole inside a Marks and Spencer bag with a Penneys fleece throw and a black bin liner wrapped around her.

Gardaí today carried out a leaflet enquiry in the area, in the hope of 'jogging their memory' in relation to the events of last Friday.

The newborn remains in the Coombe hospital, where she is said to be doing well.

Srgt Maeve O’Sullivan, from the Child Protection Unit at Clondalkin Garda station is anxious to make contact with the baby's mother soon.

"We remain anxious for the mum's welfare, and we ask and urge her to seek medical attention. I would again ask anybody to contact us who may have information that may help us in identifying the baby girl's mum," said Srgt O’Sullivan.
