Rural students 'more likely to be cyberbullied'

Rural students in this country are more likely to be cyberbullied, compared to their urban peers, according to a new study.

The data was compiled by Ireland's study website, Studyclix.

The study also revealed that almost one quarter of students say they have witnessed an example of cyberbullying in the last year.

Wicklow fared the worst in the survey with 38% of children saying they had observed online abuse. Roscommon had the lowest figure on the list at 17%.

Dublin students reported a figure of 26%, Cork 28%, Limerick 25% and Galway 18%.

The survey also uncovered that over half of all students claimed to be "addicted to their phone" with 49% admitting to checking it in class.
