Govt approves €18m for harbour upgrades

Almost €18m is to be spent on fishery harbours and the local harbour network.

Around €15m is being spent on safety, maintenance and new development works at the six fishery harbours - Howth, Dunmore East, Castletownbere, Dingle, Rossaveel and Killybegs.

The money will also be used for infrastructural improvement and storm damage repair works at North Harbour, Cape Clear in Co Cork.

Major dredging works have been sanctioned at Dunmore East along with the provision of small craft harbours and pontoons in Howth, Rossaveal and Killybegs.

Electrical upgrading in Castletownbere, and necessary remedial works to the main pier in Dingle have also been approved.
