Bus Éireann changes 'required by customers', says chief executive

The Expressway service will go out of business if cuts to routes are not made, Bus Éireann chief executive Martin Nolan told the Oireachtas Transport Committee today.

Mr Nolan says the situation does require change.

"As a company, if we do not make changes required by customers, Expressway will go out of business and jobs will be lost, both within Bus Éireann, and the wide range of suppliers that depend on Bus Éireann across the country," he said.

"We cannot trade recklessly. Expressway has to make a commercial return on its expressway routes to enable fleet replacement to take place, as it does not receive any funding for buses or coaches on these routes."
