The court has heard the diary entry followed an interview Mr Bailey gave to the Sunday Independent several months after he was first arrested on suspicion of murdering French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Mr Bailey, a former reporter born in Manchester who moved to Ireland more than 23 years ago, denies any involvement in the killing and was never charged.

There was a light moment today when barrister Luan O'Braonain began comparing the letters in the diary entry 'back in print, hip hip hooray' with other writings by Ian Bailey.

Having told the court under cross examination yesterday it didn't appear to be his writing – the former journalist said today that he thought it could be but he wasn't 100% sure because there was something strange about it.

''What if I make it easier?", he said. "How about possibly?"

''No,'' replied Mr O'Braonain "I'll see your possibly."

Mr Bailey then said it probably was his writing...it was put to him that the words referred to a Sunday Independent interview and exemplified that he enjoyed media attention.

He replied: "I'm not back in print am I, it's only if I author something."

The 57-year-old's wrongful arrest action against the state and Garda Commissioner continues.
