Labelling of allergens in loose food to become law next month
New laws requiring that specific allergens - including peanuts, gluten, shellfish and dairy products - should be clearly labelled on all loose food, come into effect from this December.
Health Minister Leo Vardkar says it is an important development for sufferers of some of the most common food allergies.
It comes into effect from December 13, as required under EU regulations.
The regulations cover everything from loose food in shops, to food sold in restaurants, pubs, takeaways, contract caterers, food stalls, as well as food being delivered.
The information is already available on pre-packed food.
