Aer Lingus plane diverted due to bomb scare at airport

An Aer Lingus flight was diverted this afternoon after a bomb scare at its destination airport.

Perpignan airport in France was closed this afternoon from about 2.30pm after a suspicious piece of luggage was found at the terminal. Passengers were evacuated and all air traffic was suspended for several hours.

At the time, an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin was en route and ordered to divert to Toulouse.

The flight later resumed its journey and landed safely at Perpignan after a controlled explosion of the device gave the airport the all-clear.

Airport data shows Aer Lingus flight EI510 arrived at 18:14 local time.
