'Tell his Ma I'm sorry', accused in carjacking death told Gardaí

A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a young man following the hijacking of a taxi in Dublin city.

Alex Doyle died after the stolen car he was a passenger in hit a pole on Sunday morning.

"Tell his Ma I'm sorry," Joseph Robinson, of Forbes Lane, Dublin 8 said after he was charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Mr Doyle.

25-year-old Doyle lost an arm, and ultimately his life, after the hijacked taxi he was a passenger in crashed into a pole near Mount Brown on Sunday morning

A short time beforehand, a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted and his cab taken from him after picking up a fare in the Rathfarnham area.

Doyle's arm was severed and he was thrown from the wreckage after it overtook a bus between Kilmainham and the city centre and lost control.

Gardai have objected to bail for Mr Robinson, and that objection is due to be heard shortly.
