Gardaí hunt raider after bank robbed in Dublin

One man has been arrested after detectives chased armed robbers who held up a bank.

A handgun and cash has also been recovered following the raid on the Bank of Ireland branch beside the Montrose Hotel, in Donnybrook, south Dublin.

Two men threatened staff at the outlet at around 11:30 this morning before making off with money in a car towards Booterstown. A number of customers were in the branch at the time but no-one was injured.

The raiders are believed to have dumped the car at the Seamount apartment complex , in Booterstown, where it was set ablaze.

They then got on a motorbike to make their getaway but were followed in a high speed chase by gardaí.

One of the robbers came off the bike and was pursued on foot by officers who caught and arrested him. A small amount of cash and a pistol was also recovered.

The suspect – aged in his 30s – is being held under section 30 of the Offence Against the State Act.

He can be questioned for three days before being released or charged.

The investigation is ongoing and gardai are still hunting a second man.
