Complaints silence church bells in Dublin
Complaints about noise pollution have led to the silencing of the bells of an old church on Dublin's southside.
The bells of St Bartholomew’s Church, which rang out over Ballsbridge in Dublin for more than 130 years, fell silent following a warning from Dublin City Council.
The bells chimed every 15 minutes and the church was warned by the council that it faced fines of €3,000 if it didn't stop them ringing at night.
A mechanism to silence the bells between 11pm and 7am failed on several occasions, so the decision was taken by Vicar Andrew McCroskery to stop the clock and silence the bells.
