Historic artillery shells made safe in Dublin

An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe two historical artillery shells in Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team in response to a request from the Gardaí after the suspect objects were discovered by a construction worker at a private residence on Shelbourne Road, Dublin.

The exact age and type of ammunition could not be identified due to the items being badly corroded but it is believed that they may be dating back to the early twentieth century.

The shells were taken to a safe nearby location where they were made safe by means of a controlled explosion.
