Dundon trial witness denies accusations of garda priming

The chief prosecution witness in the trial of a Limerick man accused of murdering Garryowen rugby player Shane Geoghegan has denied that she has been primed by Gardaí in giving evidence.

April Collins is being cross-examined at the Special Criminal Court by lawyers for John Dundon of Hyde Road, who denies any part in the shooting of the 28-year-old who was killed in a case of mistaken identity in Garryowen in the early hours of November 9 2008.

Collins is the former partner of John Dundon’s brother Gerard, with whom she has three children.

She previously told the trial that she heard John Dundon order a killing shortly before the rugby player was murdered, and that he panicked when he heard the wrong man had been shot.

Under cross examination today, she has denied that she has been primed by gardaí in giving evidence.

She is also being questioned over a previous conviction she has for intimidating a witness, and about ending her relationship with Gerard Dundon who is in prison.

She agreed that she refused to let him see his children and when asked about her new partner, who has a rape conviction, she replied that "he was never in for being at kids, if anything he’s a great father to my kids."
