Corkman 'from prominent business family' dies in Mozambique

A Cork man has been killed in the African state of Mozambique.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it was offering assistance to the 32-year-old’s family in Co Cork.

It is understood the man is from Kilcully in Co Cork and that he died in the last two days.

The man's name has not been released but it is believed he hails from a prominent business family in the area and has strong links with the Glen Rovers football club.

The Irish Ambassador in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, is also liaising with the man’s employer, the engineering and construction company Kentz.

It is understood he did not die as a result of an industrial accident.

In a statement Kentz confirmed the death of a team member who was on project assignment in the African country.

“The individual was a 32-year-old Irish man and his family have been informed, we are in close contact with them during this dreadful time,” said a spokesman.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and express our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of our deceased team member.

“A full investigation is under way by local police authorities in Mozambique.”
