Bail for IRA accused arrested after Alan Ryan funeral

A Dublin man charged with membership of the IRA after a garda investigation in to paramilitary activity at the funeral of Alan Ryan in early September has been released on bail at the Special Criminal Court today.

Nathan Kinsella (aged 33) is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA on September 13, 2012.

He was arrested last month along with Vincent Ryan (aged 22), a brother of the deceased man Alan Ryan, and Darragh Evans (aged 23) who are also charged with the same offence on the same date.

Ms Tara Burns BL, for the State, this morning told the non-jury court that there was consent to release the accused man on bail.

She said that bail had been agreed on a number of terms, including the provisions that Mr Kinsella sign on daily at an assigned Garda station, reside at a given address and observe a curfew between 11pm and 7am.

Mr Kinsella was ordered not to leave the jurisdiction and was directed to surrender his passport and not apply for new travel documentation.

He was ordered not to contact any proposed prosecution witnesses in the case and is not to associate with anyone convicted of or charged with a scheduled offence, save for his brother.

Mr Kinsella is to be of good behaviour and keep the peace and must provide a mobile phone number to gardai and ensure that this phone is left on at all times.

Presiding judge Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan, sitting with Judge Margaret Heneghan and Judge William Hamill, said the case would be listed to come before the court again on November 7 next.
