Gardaí investigate armed raid at Galway shop
Gardaí in Galway are appealing for information after a shop manager was held at gunpoint during an armed raid at a shop and post office in Inverin, Connemara.
The manager was out socialising at a pub in Inverin last night. When he got into his car to drive home at around 11.45pm, a man carrying a gun jumped into the passenger seat beside him.
The raider demanded the man drive to the shop, which is called An Siopa Phobail. Once there, the armed thief tied up the shop manager and stole a substantial amount of cash.
No shots were fired and the manager was not hurt during the incident.
The thief then made his getaway in the shop manager's car, which was later found in Spiddal.
Superintendent Noel Kelly of Salthill Garda Station, who is heading up the investigation, said the culprit was about 5" 11" and stocky. He was wearing dark clothing and a black balaclava.
