€2bn stimulus package to be finalised today
A major stimulus programme is set to be finalised by government ministers today. It is expected the package could be worth more than €2bn.
The areas of transport, health and education are all expected to feel the benefit of this stimulus package.
According to reports this morning, major road projects in Galway and Wexford will get the green light, including a number of bypass schemes.
DIT will be hoping for good news with speculation that their centralised campus on the northside of Dublin city will get the go-ahead.
Four sources of money are being used for the stimulus plan. They are:
- The sale of state assets;
- Revenues from public-private partnerships;
- The European Investment Bank;
- The National Pensions Reserve fund.
Ministers are due to sign off on the package at this morning's cabinet meeting.
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin are expected to outline details of the spending package this afternoon.
