Fire brought under control at Meath recycling plant

Workers are returning to a recycling plant in Co Meath today after a fire there was brought under control.

Eight units of the Co Meath fire brigade attended the blaze at the Panda Waste plant in the Rathdrinagh Beauparc Business Park Facility in Navan.

No-one was injured in the fire which broke out there at about 11.30pm last night.

Panda says the flames were confined to one warehouse containing 700 tonnes of recycled waste but no toxic material.

The Fire Officer at the scene is working with the company to establish the cause of the fire and a report is expected to be released within the next 48 hours.

Olive Falsey, Communications Officer with Meath County Council, said there are particular dangers attached to waste fires.

"The fact that it's compacted waste, there is the issue around it reigniting even when the water is put on the fire," she said.

"The fire service have to be very vigilant that they stay to ensure that the fire's completely extinguished; and that may take up to two days," she added.
