Inquest held into death of Cork student

The father of a teenager who fell to his death after a student night out has called for a wider debate in society about how young adults consume alcohol.

Caolan Mulrooney is believed to have gotten lost on his way home in Cork last December, and sustained catastrophic injuries after falling 30 feet.

The inquest into his death today heard there were no warning signs on the wall he had scaled to indicate there was such a significant drop behind.

The inquest returned a verdict of accidental death.

Caolan's father Eugene Mulrooney today said he hoped lessons can be learned from the tragedy.

"The challenge for us (is) how do we create a society where young adults can go out on a night and enjoy themselves socially… in order to get a good, mature drinking habit.

"That's our requirement to them as a society.

"We're asking ourselves that question and we don't know the answer."
