JobBridge scheme reaches 5,000 internships

The JobBridge scheme has hit its target of 5,000 internships.

The JobBridge scheme has hit its target of 5,000 internships.

The programme was launched in June of last year and offers internships to unemployed people who can keep their benefits plus an extra €50 a week, while gaining work experience.

However, critics have said it is just a way for businesses to avail of free labour.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed the news that the target has been reached, saying 5,000 additional young people have had invaluable work experience, and he said some have already got full-time work as a result.

There are still 2,000 posts available under the scheme.
