AA: Make sure your car is ready for long journeys

The AA has advised drivers to make sure their car is ready for a long journey before hitting the road for Christmas.

The AA also issued a reminder to motorists to allow plenty of time for the trip, to stay alert, keep to the speed limit and never drink and drive.

AA Roadwatch spokesperson Aoife Carragher said there was a 52% increase in breakdown calls over the holiday period last year, due to the surge in the numbers driving.

"You can't overlook the important things (such as) checking your oil and tyres and making sure your car is ready for a long journey," she said.
