Court to rule in Mansfield case

The Commercial Court is to rule today whether hotelier Jim Mansfield has to repay loans of €206m.

Bank of Scotland is looking for summary judgment orders against the businessman whose defence case was described by the bank's lawyers as "utterly fanciful".

The man behind Weston Aerodrome is contesting Bank of Scotland's move to secure judgment orders against him for more than €200m.

Mr Mansfield said it was the bank's failure to honour an alleged agreement that lead to the collapse of the Mansfield group.

He claimed they were to loan more money in 2008 to complete the Citywest convention centre.

Lawyers for Bank of Scotland said his case is among the most "far-fetched" to come before the court.

The Mansfield loans, they said, were in serious default.

A ruling is expected today.
