Woman killed in Limerick crash
A 58-year old woman has been killed in a crash in Co Limerick.
The single-car crash occurred shortly after 4pm when the vehicle hit a tree on the Doon to Cappamore Road.
The woman, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road has been closed while a forensic examination is carried out and diversions are in place.
This latest fatality brings to 167 the number of people killed on Irish roads this year.
It comes ahead of World Remembrance Day for road traffic victims this Sunday. Ceremonies will take place across the country.
Some 23,059 people have been killed on our roads since records began in 1959.
Noel Brett of the Road Safety Authority said motorists should use dipped headlights (not fog lights) at all times this winter, and should never drive into flood waters.
"The key thing this winter is to plan your route, and to slow down," he said.
