Survey shows Irish holidaymakers keen to sample new cultures
Almost 80% of Irish people who travel abroad factor at least one 'local culture' trip into their break, according to a new survey.
A new survey by AA travel insurance questioned almost 13,000 people about their holiday habits.
The results show 70% of respondents enjoy interacting with the locals - and 77% will sample the native cuisine.
Just over half of those questioned say they have a go at the local lingo - even if it's just a handful of phrases like 'hello', 'thank you' and 'can I have the bill please'.
"While there were those who indicated they like to switch off, lounge by the pool, read a few books and do little else when on a long -anticipated holiday, to quote one respondent “I like to relax not receive an education”, the majority of respondents shared the sentiment: Why bother leave home if you’re no interest in what your holiday destination has to offer?” said Miriam O’ Neill, spokesperson for AA Travel Insurance.
