The Irish Association for Emergency Medicine has said the number of children being injured on trampolines internationally has doubled in the last decade.

The association estimates that for every child admitted to hospital for treatment here, a further 12 are seen and treated without the need for orthopedic follow-up.

The most common injuries are fractures to the upper limbs.

The association recommends that only one child at a time be allowed on a trampoline; that adults should supervise; that trampolines should be surrounded by safety nets and that they should never be used under the influence of alcohol.
