The deceased man, Aiden Mullen, 35, from Tattyreagh Rd, Co Tyrone, had attended Croke Park the previous night.

He was later socialising in a pub on Burgh Quay with a number of friends and family.

The deceased left the group and walked over to the River Liffey wall and he was last seen falling into the river by his brother.

His brother jumped in to assist him, but both got in to trouble in the water.

Three passers-by also entered the water to assist the pair.

Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and removed four persons from the water. A short time later the body of the deceased was located in the vicinity by Dublin Fire Brigade members.

A number of witnesses have come forward, but gardaí would like to speak to witnesses who have not yet come forward or any one who has information in relation to the incident to contact them in Pearse St on 01 6669000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
