Burton: Cuts of €44 per week possible for jobless who refuse re-training
Social Protection Minister Joan Burton has warned that some people face cuts in their welfare payments if they persist in not engaging with re-training and work.
Joan Burton is under fire for claiming social welfare is becoming a "lifestyle choice" for some young people leaving school.
The Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed said much of the problem was a lack of information on training and education plans.
Speaking at a training centre in West Dublin this morning, Minister Burton confirmed those on the live register who do not engage with re-training will see cuts of up to €44 per week.
"The condition of getting social welfare is that you make a serious effort to get back and get close to the jobs market," she said.
