Jury to consider pub killing verdict
The jury has gone out in the trial of three men accused of murdering a father-of-three who was shot dead in Grumpy Jack's bar in Dublin.
Peter Kenny of McCarthy’s Terrace, Rialto; Christopher Zambra of Galtymore Road, Drimnagh and Bernard Hempenstall from Park Terrace, The Coombe have all pleaded not guilty to the killing on February 18, 2009.
The prosecution alleges that Peter Kenny was the gunman in the motorcycle helmet who can be seen on CCTV entering Grumpy Jacks bar at around 9.30pm and gunning down John Carroll.
The State claims Christopher Zambra was the brains behind the shooting and it said that Bernard Hempenstall was drinking with the deceased and gave away his location.
The case centres on the evidence of Joey O'Brien who admits being a party to the murder but is now in the Witness Protection Programme having been offered immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony.
Before being sent out, the jury was warned by the judge about relying solely on the evidence of Joey O'Brien who they were told may have motives for not telling the truth.
