Schools are to be allowed to use up to three days' school holiday days to make up for time lost during the year due to unforeseen circumstances, such as last winter's big freeze.

Schools are to be allowed to use up to three days' school holiday days to make up for time lost during the year due to unforeseen circumstances, such as last winter's big freeze.

The Department of Education has drawn up new contingency plans which give flexibility on holiday periods to catch up on the curriculum.
