Queen arrives at Croke Park

The Queen has arrived at Croke Park in Dublin, the site of the Bloody Sunday massacre in 1920.

She is expected to meet with GAA officials and players during the historic visit.

On her way in to Croke Park, Queen Elizabeth will be greeted by children dressed in the jerseys of the each county in Ireland, as well as New York and London.

She will meet with GAA officials and be entertained by the Artane Band while there are some GAA players from Tipperary, Dublin and Meath there to meet her.

She is expected to walk on the hallowed turf of this famous stadium and later watch a performance of Irish dancing.

The GAA President Christy Cooney will present her with a leather-bound volume of the history of the GAA, as well as a hurley and a sliotar.

Officials are anxious to stress the cultural importance of this visit but there is no doubt it represents yet another milestone in acknowledgements by the British monarch of past wrongs in Ireland.
