Barmen due in court over man's alcohol death

Two barmen are due to go on trial for the manslaughter of a British man who died from acute alcohol intoxication.

The landmark prosecution against Gary Wright and Aidan Dalton is listed to begin in Co Tipperary today.

Mr Wright, 34, a bar manager at Hayes' Hotel in Thurles, and Mr Dalton, a 29-year-old barman, are charged with the unlawful killing of hotel guest Graham Parish.

Mr Parish, from Calder Terrace in Lomeshaye village near Nelson, east Lancashire, was staying at the hotel when he died from acute alcohol intoxication on July 1 2008.

The barmen, who are both from Kilfithmone, Borrisoleigh, are expected to go on trial at Nenagh Circuit Court.

It is the first case of its kind under the liquor liability laws in Ireland.
