Medical staff monitor 12 after three fall ill in drugs trial
Three men are recovering in hospital tonight after they became ill during a clinical trial.
Three ambulances, two rapid response vehicles and two advance paramedics were called to the Shandon Clinic in Cork this morning.
It is understood 12 men had been undergoing a drug trial at the private clinic when some became unwell.
Three of the men were taken to Cork University Hospital, where they are said to be in a stable condition.
The trial’s other participants are thought to have been treated at the scene and are believed to be remaining under medical supervision at the clinic as a precaution.
The clinic, set up in 1990, is located in the city’s former University Dental Hospital.
It carries out between 20 and 30 clinical studies on site each year for a range of international clients.
