Eamon Montgomery’s gymnastics career began with a wrong turn.

He remembers being a hyperactive child who was already doing flips on the trampoline in the back garden but, one fateful day when he was six years old, it wasn't the just-opened gym in Lisburn that his parents were planning to bring him to, it was the local swimming pool.
