Irish man among nine hurt in last bull run

A 30-year-old Irish man was among nine runners injured in the last running of the bulls at Spain’s San Fermin festival today, officials said.

The extent of his injuries were not immediately known. Officials had earlier said that three people were gored by the bulls during this morning's encierro.

Doctors said one of those gored was injured in the abdomen, another was gored in the armpit and the third suffered an arm injury.

The regional government of Navarra said in a statement that the injured included a 30-year-old Irish citizen, a New Zealander aged 26 from Auckland, and seven Spaniards from four different regions of the country.

Bulls were this morning seen falling and tossing people on the slippery, damp cobblestone streets of Pamplona, where a red bull at the tail of the pack fell and became separated from the rest.

The eighth and final running of the year’s festival took 4 minutes and 23 seconds, a relatively long time because the last bull turned and charged backwards at least three times.

An Irish man in his 40s was also injured on the third day of this year's San Fermin festival. He was briefly hospitalised after sustaining a gash to his leg.
