Teens arrested in connection with probe into Navan death

Two teenagers were arrested today over the murder of a GAA fan who died almost a week after a street attack.

The pair, aged 16 and 19, were detained in the Navan area over the killing of Martin O’Gorman, a 63-year-old building contractor from Athlone, Co Westmeath.

They were taken in for questioning at Kells and Navan Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Mr O’Gorman was attacked in Navan, Co Meath, in the early hours of June 21 and died in hospital six days later.

Yesterday, detectives appealed for information about a cyclist and two motorists who they believe could hold vital clues to the street attack.

Mr O’Gorman, who was known as “Mairt” and who worked in the family business Midland Crane Hire, was discovered with head injuries in Academy Street, Navan, by a taxi driver.

The GAA fan had been in Navan to socialise after Meath’s victory over Laois in Tullamore.
