A meat factory in Co Cork has suffered tens of thousands of euro of damage following a fire overnight.

A meat factory in Co Cork has suffered tens of thousands of euro of damage following a fire overnight.

Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire at Irish Bacon Slicers at Innishmore in Ballincollig which was discovered at around 4am this morning.

The blaze was brought under control by 5.20am but there was extensive damage to two refrigeration units at the rear of the factory.

However, it is understood that the company, which employs 70 people, hopes to have production back up and running within a few days.
