TUI rejects Croke Park deal
The Teachers Union of Ireland has emphatically rejected the proposed Croke Park deal.
The final voting figures reveal that out of its 10,222 members who voted, 7,554, or 75%, rejected the deal, with only a quarter, or 2,528, accepting it.
The union has said: "The members have followed the lead given by the Executive Committee and by TUI Annual Congress and have voted overwhelmingly in accordance with the recommendation of both Congress and the Executive Committee.
"A margin of 3:1 is a resounding endorsement of the rejection initiated by the Executive Committee."
According to the union, the main reason for the rejection is the "open-ended demand for renegotiation of contracts of both second level teachers and third level lecturers together with the demand for an additional hour in both cases".
"The Executive Committee of TUI will consider the result at a meeting today and will vote according to the ballot result at the forthcoming meeting of the Public Services Committee of ICTU."
The ASTI and the INTO will reveal the results of their ballots this afternoon.
