Cork man charged with false imprisonment in car crash case

A 40-year-old man arrested following a collision in which two teenagers were killed has appeared in court in Cork.

Philip Murphy, from Kilalla Gardens, Knocknaheeny in Cork city, was charged with falsely imprisoning a young man on Thursday night.

Gardaí have objected to bail on the grounds that the case was connected to the fatal car crash.

Mr Murphy was charged with falsely imprisoning Darren Lenihan at Hollyville Estate in Cork last Thursday night.

Gardaí say the case is linked to a double fatal car crash that took place on the same evening in Knocknaheeny.

Sixteen-year-old CJ Dolan, of Hollywood Estate, Blarney Road was pronounced dead after the two-car collision.

Derry O'Callaghan, aged 19, from Killalla Gardens in Knocknaheeny, died from his injuries yesterday morning.

The accused has been remanded in custody to appear again at Cork District Court on Tuesday.

Gardaí are awaiting further instructions from the DPP.
